POLICE CID LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION INTO MURDER OF JOURNALIST
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has indicated it was following leads on all persons suspected to be linked to Wednesday night’s gruesome murder of the investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale at Madina in Accra.
The Director-General of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, who disclosed this to Graphic Online, however, fell short of mentioning those to be invited for questioning.
She rather invited the public to assist in the investigations.
The journalist who worked with the Tiger Eye P.I., a private investigative company operated by ace journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was gunned down by unknown assailants at Madina on Wednesday night.
Hussein-Suale was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck, while driving home by unidentified men riding a motorbike.
When quizzed on the likelihood of the police inviting the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, known to have incited the public to harm the journalist, the CID boss said: “We will invite all we suspect to be linked to it”.
Meanwhile, soon after the murder, the video of the television broadcast last year showing the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyapong imploring the public to attack the journalist has gone into circulation on social media.
In the video, the MP urged members of the public to slap the deceased, adding that he was prepared to pay any amount of money for that action to be carried out.
In a related development, the Director of Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr David Eklu, confirmed to Graphic Online that the attention of the police has been drawn to the action of the MP in the television broadcast as part of their investigations.
“Per our duty here, we are to monitor and gather all such information on social media and use those that can assist us with investigations into such crimes for further investigations”, he said.
Public demand MP’s arrest
Meanwhile, some members of the public are calling on the Police to arrest and question Mr Agyapong.
On various radio and television programmes on Thursday, the public insisted that the Assin Central MP cannot escape blame for the murder of the journalist because of the public remarks he made against him.
